OpenEuroLLM is Europe’s answer to closed-source AI. With a massive strategic allocation of EuroHPC’s total capacity, including access to the upcoming JUPITER supercomputer, we are building the next generation of open European foundation models. In this talk, we unpack the reality of R&D for this continental operation. We will detail AI Sweden’s full-stack leadership: from defining scaling laws and custom tokenizers to curating data pipelines and driving the critical post-training phase. Supported by Vinnova, national and European partners, and integrated with other European projects such as TrustLLM and DeployAI, this project ensures digital sovereignty and green computing while retaining top-tier AI talent here in Sweden and across Europe.
